In June 1969, in Waltham, Massachusetts, an entrepreneurial young
HVAC salesman
named Frank Engel dared to take a risk and launch his own wholesale
distribution company.
"The other wholesalers laughed at us," recalls Frank.
"They didn't believe we could make it
happen." Nearly 40 years later, the last laugh belongs to Frank.

At its founding,
Air
Purchases boasted a mere 5,000 square-feet of warehouse space and
just two employees. "We thought that was a lot of space at
the time," said Frank. "Less than
a year later we'd added another 5,000 square-feet and leased an
additional 2,000."
41974
In 1974, the company celebrated its fifth anniversary with the completion
of a new 20,000
square-foot facility located at 24 Blanchard Road in Burlington,
Massachusetts. Within the
next three years, the company would again double the size of its
operation.

Air Purchases was chosen from among its peers to become the exclusive
residential distributor throughout New England for The Trane Company,
the industry leader in indoor air quality,
reliability and innovation. Working in partnership with Trane, Air
Purchases is able to offer
residential and light commercial HVAC contractors one of the industry's
most comprehensive
dealer relationships.

After spending 34 years at the helm, Frank assumed the role of CEO,
passing the company's
legacy and its day-to-day management to his son, Rob. "My
father founded this company with
a simple business principle in mind: to provide quality products
and excellent service to our
customers," said Rob. "What it means to provide 'excellent
service' has changed, expanded
through the years, but my goal remains the same: to give our customers
exactly what they
need to succeed."

In
response to a rapidly changing industry, Air Purchases moved "beyond
the box" and began
taking a more active role in its dealers' business growth. "Our
Trane dealers have come to rely
on our advanced business development, retail sales, marketing, and
technical training and
support to meet their need for more specialized business expertise,"
said Rob. "We are
committed to helping them grow and prosper in today's more complex,
ever-changing
business environment."

Today
Air
Purchases is New England's largest independent, full-line wholesale
distributor of
HVAC equipment and accessories. The company employs over 70 people
at seven locations in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island
and at its custom fabrication shop in Burlington.
