41969
It was 1969. A year of trials and triumphs. Of fresh starts and
free love. Of history in the making.
"Tricky Dicky" entered the White House. Miss Vicky tiptoed
through the tulips with Tiny Tim.
Neil Armstrong tiptoed on the moon and into the history books, making
"one small step for
man, one giant leap for mankind."
Nearly half
a million young people gathered at Yasgur's Farm for three days
of peace, music
and a whole lot more. Three days, man. Three days. We just love
ya!
Half-a-million anti-war protestors gathered on the common in Washington,
DC. And half a
world away, American soldiers gathered in battle, giving their lives
for their country in
the rice paddies of Vietnam.
Closer to
home, New England sports teams battled for their respective championships.
The
World Series eluded our beloved Red Sox once again (they finished
third in the American
League East). There was no Super Bowl for the Pats eitherthey
tied for third in the
AFL's Eastern Division. The Celtics didn't take the NBA Championship,
either. They placed
fourth in the NBA Eastern Division.
Okay, so maybe it wasn't exactly an historical year for local sports
fans, but with Air Purchases entering the HVAC industry, history
was definitely in the making . . .
